Soft as winter light on fresh snow, this agateware vase by Kathy Cady carries its color not on its surface but within the clay itself. Grey and white porcelain, wedged and thrown together, flow in gentle horizontal striations around a form that rises from a narrow unglazed foot to a wide, confident shoulder before tapering inward to a modest opening. The satin glaze unifies everything in a quiet, silky finish that rewards close looking.
The form is resolved and serene, equally beautiful holding a small gathering of garden roses or standing alone on a windowsill as a sculptural object in its own right. Part of Kathy Cady’s Agateware Collection.
Its intimate 2″ opening makes it ideally suited for a few stems of early spring tulips or a single flowering branch.
