Agateware

Named for the banded gemstone prized since antiquity, agateware captures in clay what nature achieves in stone over millennia. Porcelain, pure and luminous, is married with veins of black and surrendered to the wheel. As the form rises, the blended clays stretch and spiral, tracing the memory of every turn in soft, flowing striations across the surface. Like the translucent layers of agate sliced to reveal its hidden interior landscape, each thrown vessel exposes a singular pattern born of the marbling process. No two pieces are ever alike. The result is serene and elemental, its swirling grain reminiscent of storm clouds, sea foam, or polished stone, holding within its walls both the maker’s intention and a beautiful accident of process.
