Kathy Cady Hillside Ceramics
Inspired by a love of our earth and creativity, Kathy Cady’s Hillside Ceramics was established in June 2000 on fourth-generation family land. A native of Northwestern Connecticut, she earned her Master’s degree in Art Education and taught ceramics at the high school and college levels for over 30 years. Her ceramic artwork originally focused on pit-firing techniques, reflecting ancient and classical forms. Those creations bore a fluidity and gracefulness that complemented the primitive force of fire. Kathy’s current artwork is often infused with crystals, melted glass, and fabricated metal, and reverently expresses the eternity of geological formations and the wonders of water.
Artist Statement
Ever since early childhood, I have felt a connection to our natural world. Growing up on a tree farm, vacationing alongside lakes and oceans, and working the soil with my hands while gardening has allowed me to nurture a creative enlightenment that I portray throughout my pottery. This has imbued me with joy and a deep kinship to our environment, and I intend to continue cultivating this feeling as I move through the topography of my life and our world.
Evening winds whirl desert dust; a pastel palette flares twilit skies.
Tattered, wind-worn badlands hurl jigsaw shadows ‘neath the icy glimmer of a gibbous moon.
Across gloom-shrouded sharkskin seas, a door of perception parts far beyond the clear horizon.
